Authorities were summoned to the hospital on reports of a suicidal person, but after an examination Amato was deemed not to be a threat to himself. Amato admitted to stealing the drugs, claiming he administered them to patients who weren’t ‘adequately relaxed’ by their prescribed medication. He was not prosecuted for the theft.
