Britain’s biggest music festival is set to get underway in just under three weeks as Glastonbury returns for 2023. The long-running festival, which takes its name from the Somerset village it is held in, is one of the most iconic music events worldwide. So, when is the festival taking place in 2023?

Held on the site of Worthy Farm, Glastonbury has been run by the Eavis family since its inception by Michael Eavis in 1970. Michael’s daughter Emily now runs the festival alongside her father, whilst she is also responsible for booking the line up at Glastonbury each year. In 2023, Glastonbury Festival will take place between Wednesday June 21 2023 and Sunday June 25 2023.Glastonbury line up 2023Glastonbury has officially confirmed all of the artists set to appear on stage at the 2023 edition of the event. Elton John will headline proceedings, after being selected in the traditional flagship slot to close out the festival from the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night. It will be Elton’s last ever UK show, after a glittering career that has spanned more than half a century. The opening night of action from the Pyramid Stage, on the Friday, will be headlined by Arctic Monkeys, marking the first time the Sheffield indie rockers have played at Glastonbury since 2013. Guns N’ Roses will headline the Pyramid Stage on the Saturday night, whilst other artists set to feature on Glastonbury’s main stage over the weekend include Aitch, Lizzo, Rick Astley, Lil Nas X, Blondie and Lewis Capaldi. The Other Stage will be headlined by Wizkid, Lana Del Rey and Queens of the Stone Age on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively. Queens of the Stone Age — fronted by Josh Homme — will perform in the final slot on the Other Stage on the final night of the festival Lana Del Rey will headline the Other Stage at Glastonbury on the Saturday night of the festival.

Following the resale period, which took place in April 2023, tickets to Glastonbury Festival are now sold out. However, you could still be in with a chance of winning free tickets to this year’s event. A number of charities including Oxfam, Greenpeace, WaterAid and Shelter offer volunteers free tickets in exchange for working shifts throughout the festival. Additionally, confectionery brand Tony’s Chocoloney have partnered up with Oxfam to offer free Glastonbury tickets to customers who find a golden ticket in one of their chocolate bars. The five special bars will be available to purchase until June 16 2023, with all profit going to Oxfam.After finding the golden ticket, the lucky winners will receive two general admission weekend entry tickets to the festival.

The closest railway station to the festival site is Castle Cary, which is located on the Great Western Railway mainline, with services running from London Paddington. A free shuttle bus will operate between Castle Cary and the festival bus station, which is located next to Pedestrian Gate A. Glastonbury Festival has also partnered with National Express, giving ticket-holders the chance to travel to the festival site by coach from a number of different locations across England, Scotland and Wales.
